The refuge is a great place to enjoy boating. Most of the refuge is open to boating year-round. Outboard motors 25 horsepower or less are permitted in waterways inside the hurricane protection levees. There is no size restriction on outboard motors on waterways outside the levees.
The Hwy 11 Boat Launch provides access to canals and shallow interior lakes. It is located on the west side of Hwy 11, approximately 2.5 miles south of the Hwy. 11/Irish Channel exit off of I-10.
