The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service are conducting an analysis of the Alaska Energy Authority鈥檚 Sterling to Quartz Creek Transmission Line Project (Project), located on the transmission line right-of-way (ROW) that passes through land owned or administered by Kenai Peninsula Borough; Alaska Native Regional Corporation Cook Inlet Region, Incorporated; the State of Alaska; private owners; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, including the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge; and U.S. Forest Service in the Chugach National Forest. The proposed action would include upgrades within the transmission line ROW including removing the existing 115 kV line and replacing it with a 230 kV transmission line accompanied with a fiber optic cable. The old transmission line poles would be removed, and new poles would be installed. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the lead federal agency, and U.S. Forest Service is the cooperating agency. The Responsible Official for this decision is Karlin Itchoak, Assistant Regional Director, National Wildlife Refuge System 鈥 Alaska Region for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Jennifer K. Youngblood, Forest Supervisor, for the U.S. Forest Service.
