Need to Know
  • Fees: All programs are free with a valid entrance pass. Learn more about fees on our Visit Us page.
  • Reservations: Space may be limited and reservations may be required for some tours, please see the program descriptions for more information.
  • Cancellations: Some programs are subject to weather conditions and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
  • Come Prepared: Always check the weather conditions before leaving home and dress appropriately for the day. This might include wearing a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, long pants, and walking shoes. We recommend that you bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
  • A parent or guardian must accompany all youth under the age of 18. All participants must come prepared to be good listeners, pay very close attention to the walk leader, stay with the group, and be respectful of wildlife and other visitors.
  • Trails. Trail surfaces are either mowed grass, shell-rock gravel, or a wooden boardwalk. Trails are mostly flat without steep inclines, but some trails have uneven surfaces and exposed roots.
  • Note for large groups Please contact refuge staff at least one month in advance to make a reservation for guided tours of groups larger than five (5) individuals. Reservations allow staff to avoid conflicts between other groups and resource management activities, and to arrange logistics for those groups requesting services.

Tram Tours -  Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 am

Explore the Refuge on our educational tram tour for a relaxing experience! Each row accommodates three people, but due to the small middle seat, we will seat two per row unless a smaller individual is between two others. The tram features a 6-inch running board, handrails on each bench, and a ceiling handhold. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early; tours last about 90 minutes. Maximum number of passengers is 8 people. Reserve your spot(s) by calling the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Clean Up the Everglades - National Public Lands Day Event - Saturday, September 20 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Help us keep our National Wildlife Refuge beautiful by helping us pick up litter and trash. Email [email protected] for more information or to register your group. Include the location you would like to work in and how many people will be working in your group. All participants will be asked to signed a volunteer agreement and be provided with safety equipment such as gloves, trash pickers, hand sanitizer, etc. A portable toilet is located at both Loxahatchee Road and 20 mile bend. The only indoor facility at the Headquarters area. A water station with ice will be provided at each station as well as disposable cup. Participants are encouraged to bring their own re-useable water bottle.

Boardwalk Clean Up - National Public Lands Day Event - Saturday, September 27 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

We need your help cleaning our Cypress Swamp Boardwalk! The Cypress Swamp at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is one of the largest remaining remnants of the once sprawling cypress habitat in Florida. To properly maintain the boardwalk, we would like volunteers to clean the gaps between the boards. Cleaning the gaps helps water and debris drain instead of accumulating on top of the boards and creating a slippery and dangerous surface. To apply, please email [email protected]. Family Fishing Day - National Public Lands Day Event - Saturday, September 27 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Bring the whole family out for a fun fishing day! This event is led by Reel Fishing Charities, a non-profit. They will teach your kids how to set up their rod and reel, cast, identify fish, and hopefully catch some fish! All rods, reels, and bait are provided. Meet at the Lee Rd Boat Ramp. Bring a hat!

International Observe the Moon Night - Find Your Wild Event - October 11 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Observe the celestial bodies of the universe with us on International Observe the Moon Night! We will be partnering with the South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association to observe the moon and the stars! Starting at 5:30, the astronomers will have special viewing telescopes that allow you to safely view the sun. As the sun sets over the Everglades, they will turn their telescopes to view the moon and stars! Bring your own telescopes or view the moon from the astronomers telescopes, and definitely bring bug spray! No reservation required. Meet at the Lee Road Boat Ramp. 

Try Archery! - Find Your Wild Event - October 12 at 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

Join us for our kick off event for National Wildlife Refuge Week, celebrating all things on National Wildlife Refuges! For this archery program, all participants (Ages 8+) must wear closed toe shoes and must be able to lift and hold 25 lbs. Participants must tie long hair back and remove all loose jewelry from neck, arms, and face. Meet at the Pond Lily Pavilion. 

Arachnids! Ranger Talk - Find Your Wild Event - October 18 at 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Sign up to listen and learn about spiders found on the Refuge. Our creepy crawly friends get a bad rep! Come learn more about the role that spiders play in the ecosystem of the Everglades. RSVP your seat by calling the Visitor Center at 561-734-8303.

Spooky Hike - Find Your Wild Event - October 29 at 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Stroll along with us for an evening in the Everglades and hear thrilling tales of Everglades past. During this 2 mile hike you will hear the stories of ghosts, pirates, the infamous skunk ape, and more. Costume are encouraged. This hike is not intended for children and there is a maximum of 30 participants.
