Who needs this permit?
An individual or business needs this permit if they haze or trap bald eagles or golden eagles that:
- Cause damage (depredation) to agriculture, private property, etc.
- Pose a threat to human or eagle health and safety.
- Pose a threat to the recovery of protected wildlife.

Notes: An eagle depredation permit is intended to provide short-term relief from eagles until long-term, non-lethal measures can be implemented to eliminate or significantly reduce the depredation problem. Disturbance is any action that disrupts or interferes with the bird鈥檚 normal behaviors or activities such as nesting, breeding, roosting, feeding, etc.
What do I need to apply?
You must attach these to your application:
- A completed Section E of the 3-200-16 form. Please ensure that the attached form is valid and has not expired.
- A . Please call Wildlife Services at 866-487-3297 to see if your situation warrants this permit. If it does, they will complete and send you Form 37 to attach to your application for this bird depredation permit. Certain cases may require a site visit from the USDA.
- Copies of receipts, invoices, or other records showing the steps taken to prevent/deter damage are not required but can help process your application.
Is there a fee?
Yes. The fee to apply is $100, non-refundable.
Federal, Tribal, State, and local government agencies, and those acting on behalf of such agencies, are exempt from the processing fee (documentation may be required).
When does it expire?
This permit is valid typically for 1 year after which you must submit a renewal application at least 30 days before it expires.
Are there reporting requirements?
Yes. Keep records of your activities because you must submit a report form by January 31 of each year.
