Stretching inland from the Gulf Coast beaches and marshes into the bottomland forests of the Brazos and San Bernard River watersheds, the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge provides vital habitat for resident wildlife, wintering waterfowl, and other migratory birds, to include neotropical migrants. This approximately 75,000-acre refuge contains some of the last remnants of old growth Columbia Bottomland forests in coastal Texas.

The refuge seeks general maintenance volunteers who will assist refuge staff with trail maintenance, mowing, and upkeep of facilities and equipment, as well as other projects. Volunteers play an important role in refuge maintenance and public use programs. Volunteers directly affect the quality and success of refuge operations; visitors� safety, comfort, and enjoyment; and the public’s understanding and image of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
